Bridging the Candidate Experience Gap: Why Every Interaction Matters

*Originally presented in partnership with Mobrium, this webinar explored how employers can improve the candidate experience and strengthen their hiring outcomes.
The Power of a Candidate’s Experience
We’ve all been there, waiting to hear back after an interview, refreshing our inbox, wondering if our application ever made it through. That uncertainty can leave a lasting impression.
Now flip the script. Imagine being the employer on the other side, working hard to fill an important role but unknowingly losing great candidates because of small, avoidable missteps in the process.
That’s exactly what our Managing Partner, Travis Cariveau unpacked in a recent Mobrium webinar, and the message resonated deeply with HR professionals and talent leaders alike.
What the Numbers Say
The webinar shared a few statistics that really put the candidate experience into perspective:
- 72% of candidates who have a bad experience won’t apply again.
- 60% abandon an application process that takes longer than 15 minutes.
- 4 out of 5 candidates say a poor interview changes their mind about the opportunity.
- And the biggest frustration of all? Silence.
As Travis pointed out, silence isn’t neutral It’s an answer. And often, it’s the one that sends good people away for good.
Small Shifts, Big Impact
What stood out most during the conversation was that improving candidate experience doesn’t require an overhaul. Sometimes, it’s the smallest changes that make the biggest difference:
- Communicate early and often. Keep candidates informed throughout the process. A short update can mean a lot.
- Simplify the application. If it takes longer than 15 minutes, candidates may move on before hitting “submit.”
- Train interviewers to engage with empathy. Conversations should build connection, not pressure.
- Ask for feedback. Candidates’ perspectives can reveal quick wins for your hiring process.
The session also reminded employers that the experience doesn’t end when a candidate isn’t selected. Those “not this time” candidates are still part of your brand story and how they’re treated determines whether they walk away disappointed or as advocates for your company.
The Takeaway
At its core, candidate experience comes down to respect and communication. Every touchpoint, every email, interview, and follow-up, either builds trust or breaks it.
“A great candidate experience doesn’t take perfection. It takes empathy.”
